A Tactical Guide to Sit and Go Poker

If you have never played in a Sit and Go tourney before, you should understand that it is very different from cash games. This is because in tourneys, you will need to make use of diverse strategies at different points in the game, owing to the chaning situations and opponents.

As you commence play, the first thing that you should do is project an image of a rock. That is something that you try to avoid when playing in Poker cash games, but it is a vital Sit and Go strategy. In fact, it is the only way that one can survive the early stages of the tournament. There are simply too many bad players out there, so avoid taking any risks.

During the middle phase, your Sit and Go strategy should change, because of two things: number one, the blinds have increased substantially, and the fish have been eliminated. Now your tactics should shift to a more normal style of playing. Include in your Sit and Go playable hands any combination of Aces along with the other face cards.

At this point a lot of Sit and Go strategies incorporate bluffing. The tightness of the players will help you pull it off. However, far more effective would be semi bluffing, as it actually gives you a chance to get a good draw. Whether you are going to attempt bluffing or semi bluffing, it is best if you try it in late position.

The reason is that it will give you a chance to oversee the situation, and the Sit and Go strategies of the other players. Also, it will afford you the opportunity to see who is actually susceptible to one.

Part of any good Sit and Go tactic would always take the draws into account. Never let your opponents get the cards cheap. If there are plenty of potential straights and flushes, then raise the stakes.

If you are the one on the draw, then you should try to make sure that you know the odds and the outs. This is where a lot of players make the fatal errors; not knowing the odds of their hands leads them to a blind and costly chase to the river.

Sit and Go tourneys necessitate a lot of preparation, as you may have noticed. Learning pot odds, hand reading are prerequisite. While this is a lot of work, it is something that needs to be done, and only by persevering will you be able to compete well.
